Below you will find our October 2020 report for COVID-19 testing. If you missed our newsletter that explains our testing system’s details, click here.

October 2020

In October, we performed a total of 180 rapid FIA tests for COVID-19. We divide our tests into three groups: Asymptomatic, Exposed, and Sick.

Results for October 2020

Total: 180 tests 15 positives Positivity rate of 8.83%

Asymptomatic: 59 tests 1 positive Positivity rate of 1.69%

Symptomatic: 75 tests 11 positive Positivity rate of 14.68 %

Exposed: 46 tests 3 positives Positivity rate of 6.52 %

Here is a summary of our results to date:

Take away thoughts for October

As you can see from the chart above, we have seen a clear improvement in the past 30-days in all the groups that we have been testing.

Of the positive patients that we have seen, most appear to be in younger people, including a jump in our teenage group. Our patients over the age of 50 continue to take longer to feel better (10-14 days) compared to our younger patients where most symptoms seem to clear before the 10-day mark. The good news is we have not had any of our patients need hospitalization in the past 30 days.

If you look at the trends in the United States, we are clearly on an upswing so next month’s report will be interesting to see if our area follows suit. Here is an updated graph of the results in the US.

What is new with COVID-19

Most people should be taking Vitamin D3 supplement

I have started to HIGHLY recommend all my patients add supplemental Vitamin D to their routine. As we enter the cooler months, there is less sunlight to enjoy and Vitamin D levels are likely to drop. As you can see in the graph above taken from a study done by Dr. Kaufamn, there is a clear inverse relationship between the percent of people who catch coronavirus and the level of measured Vitamin D in a person’s blood. To maximizes my chances, I personally take 2,000 IU Vitamin D3 from Costco. You don’t need anything fancy here. Just add between 2,000 IU and 5,000 IU per day to your routine. If you are not my patient, please speak with your doctor before adding any medications or supplements to your routine. If you are my patients, start taking Vitamin D3 supplements yesterday! If you need more convincing, read this article.

Vaccine results should be reported by the end of the month

Phase 3 trials for COVID vaccines should be coming to an end in the next 30 days. This will give us a good idea if a realistic vaccine is on the horizon. You can track the progress of these results here. As you may have heard, Russia has approved the 1st vaccine for COVID, however, many people are skeptical of their data (as am I). I feel when a realistic vaccine candidate is found, it will take 12-24 months to get that vaccine to the nation. In other words, I think we have a long way to go before we see light at the end of the tunnel. Hang in there and keep those masks on.

I will send out a link in the next few days for a video I am making on the common timeline of COVID-19 and the FLU. I think you will find it helpful to decern the two as we start to move into our flu season. Keep an eye on your email, and our Facebook and Instagram page for this link.

As always, feel free to respond to this e-mail if you have specific questions or comments on my newsletter.

Thank you,
